Ras Morbat Eye Clinic
Improving the eyesight of the people of Yemen since 1996
Improving the eyesight of the people of Yemen since 1996
The Ras Morbat Clinic was established within the compound of the old Victorian Anglican Christ Church in Aden in 1996 to provide primary health care for mothers and babies.
From the very beginning the partnership between the Anglican Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf and the Ministry of Health in Aden has been a good example of compassion and care for people in need without regard to religious or tribal identities.
In the past, the staff visited schools to offer vision exams and recommend prescriptions for spectacles if needed. For many years the staff have held “remote clinics”, offering treatment and surgery in areas remote from Aden, including Socotra Island, Mokha and the UNHCR camp for Somali refugees 200 km west of Aden.
These are the major services that we offered by the clinic
The clinic provides examinations from sight correcting prescriptions to diagnosis of eye disease such as glaucoma and cataracts.
Our own staff are regularly participating in training opportunities to improve their skills. The Aden Medical University regularly appointed students to do practical training with our staff.
Over the past few years our doctors have treated many patients for superficial face and head wounds related to the violence of the civil war.
Historically, the staff have conducted eye clinics in schools and in refugee camps. More recently they conducted a clinic in a resettlement camp for people internally displaced due to fighting in their home area. Some were identified to be brought to Aden for surgical treatment.
Our doctors perform cataract surgeries of different kinds. Some involve lens replacement and some are phacoemulsion treatments.
Lens prescriptions after vision tests are offered to all patients. Prescription medicine for glaucoma and other severe conditions, and follow-up medication after surgery is also provided by the clinic administration.
The Clinic has a fully equipped surgery, examination rooms, recovery room and pharmacy as well having a reception, administration offices and its well-known “all-weather waiting area” situated outside where it almost never rains.
The people who work for us are the heart and soul of the Clinic and without their dedication,
the Clinic would not be able to operate
No one becomes poor by giving.
The Eye Clinic is supported almost entirely by donations.
Give the gift of sight to many by giving today.
